UK MPs to be given extension for disclosing expenses

The Telegraph has revealed that MPs will now receive a months ‘grace period’ before the full details of their expenses claims are published.

Before details are made public, MPs will be able to use the appeal period to decide which entries are a risk to their security and therefore should be omitted from the public records. These records can include details of expenses for security systems and claims for services that would give clues to the location of their homes.

YRTK’s Heather Brooke commented:

‘”What other employee gets extra time to filter out embarrassing expenses from their boss? Yet again MPs think it’s one rule for them and another for the rest of us.”

“Business names need to be disclosed to ensure MPs aren’t giving sweet deals to their friends and relatives. If they have nothing to fear then they should have nothing to hide.”

Once the first round of expenses are made public, up-to-date details of all MPs’ latest expenses claims will be published by the Commons four times a year.

They do have something to fear, don’t they?

MPs have been attacked before, so some might have a legitimate fear of being attacked again.

Nick, their only fear is of being caught with their hand in the till. Every MP knows they’re up to no good with their expenses and people are suspicious that they are cheating us. The fact that they are delaying and delaying is proof (in my eyes) that they are covering their tracks. Nothing more nothing less.

Don’t get me wrong. I have no respect for any politician so I don’t expect politicians to be decent or honest, no matter how many of them jump up and say they are hardworking ordinary people with problems just like the rest of us. I pay taxes, they pilfer them. Anything that stops their pilfering – or makes them more accountable – is good. We wont stop them being greasy lying cheating scum bags but we should be able to stop them dipping into our pockets when they feel like it.

How long should we give them, one month, one year? Wake up and smell the truth, they just don’t want us to know what they have been up to. Would anyone else be allowed to use such delaying tactics? I just do not believe that anyone could not find out where they all live. It’s a load of red herrings and rubbish, what a cover up!
